Australia's Leading Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Arts and Media Hub
Established in Redfern in 1993 on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, Gadigal Information Service (GIS) is Australia's leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned community media, arts and cultural organisation. For more than three decades, GIS has created powerful platforms that amplify First Nations voices, celebrate culture, nurture creativity and strengthen community.
As the founder of two nationally significant cultural institutions—Koori Radio and the annual Yabun Festival—GIS has become a driving force for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytelling, music, arts, media and cultural expression.
Koori Radio
Broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Sydney, Western Sydney, Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Southern Highlands, Central Coast, Newcastle and Port Stephens and streaming worldwide, Koori Radio is Australia's longest-running Aboriginal community radio station. The station champions First Nations music, culture, language and storytelling while providing an independent platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.
Through music, news, interviews, current affairs and community programming, Koori Radio strengthens cultural identity, connects communities and shares positive stories that inspire audiences locally, nationally and internationally.
Yabun Festival
Held annually on 26 January in Victoria Park, Sydney, Yabun Festival is Australia's largest one-day Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander celebration. Welcoming more than 75,000 visitors each year, Yabun showcases the richness and diversity of First Nations cultures through music, fashion, dance, theatre, film, art, food, markets, workshops and community conversations.
Yabun is a vibrant celebration of survival, resilience and cultural excellence that continues to grow as one of Australia's most significant cultural events.
Kameygal Music Recording Studio
The Kameygal Music Recording Studio is a professional recording, production and rehearsal facility dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and the wider creative community.
Equipped with industry-standard technology, the studio provides recording, mixing, podcast production, voice-over services, rehearsal space and creative development opportunities for musicians, producers, broadcasters and storytellers. As part of GIS's commitment to growing First Nations creative industries, Kameygal offers an accessible, culturally safe environment where artists can create, collaborate and produce work of the highest quality.
Klub Koori
Klub Koori extends the spirit of Yabun throughout the year, presenting live music, arts and cultural events across Sydney and regional New South Wales. The program creates performance opportunities for emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists while providing welcoming spaces where communities come together to celebrate contemporary First Nations music and culture.
Klub Koori supports creative careers, strengthens cultural connections and introduces new audiences to the depth and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artistic talent.
Young Black & Deadly
Young Black and Deadly is GIS's flagship youth development program, empowering the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media makers, broadcasters, musicians, comedians and creative leaders.
The program provides practical training, mentoring and hands-on experience across radio broadcasting, podcasting, journalism, music production, digital media, live events and creative industries. Young Black and Deadly equips young people with industry skills, confidence and pathways into employment while fostering pride in culture, identity and community leadership.
